1. Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area

Spanning an area of a little over 170,000 acres in the states of Kentucky and Tennessee, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area offers some of the most scenic landscapes in the region, as well as excellent opportunities for a broad range of outdoor sports and activities. Established in 1963 and designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1991, this place is home to hundreds of different species of flora and fauna.

Located just 30 miles northwest of downtown Paris, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area can be reached in about 35 minutes by car, driving along route US-79. Once you make your way here, some of the areas you should check out include the Elk & Bison Prairie, the Golden Pond Planetarium, the 1950 Working Farm, and the visitor center.

2. Natchez Trace State Park

Located a little over 45 miles south of downtown Paris, Natchez Trace State Park is another popular day trip destination that welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Covering almost 50,000 acres, this nature reserve boasts an extensive network of hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails, as well as fully equipped camping areas, an archery range, and a free public beach along the shores of Cub Lake.

Getting from the Paris city center to the entrance of Natchez Trace State Park takes about 50 minutes by car along route US-641. Some of the spots you should not miss while exploring this fantastic nature reserve include the scenic viewpoints by the lake shores, the small streams that crisscross the area, and the lush forests full of beautiful birds and wildflowers.

3. Paris Landing State Park

Established in 1945 and covering an area of about 840 acres, Paris Landing State Park is another well-known day trip destination among Paris locals. Sitting along the western banks of Kentucky Lake, this nature reserve is located just 15 miles northeast of the city and can be reached in less than 20 minutes by car. Paris Landing State Park offers a golf course, boat launches, a swimming pool, picnic areas, and a campground.
