If you need an extra-large SUV because plenty of room is required for the people and cargo you’re regularly carrying around, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s finally a model that isn’t a huge gas-guzzler. Better yet, even the base model 2024 Toyota Sequoia hybrid has remarkable standard features. Though the line is part of a heated segment in a highly competitive market, the Sequoia still earned a top-ten spot on Car and Driver’s Best Full-Sized SUVs list.

Design

The 2024 Sequoia’s base model seats eight people. Its standard features include luxurious elements such as a power sliding and tilting moonroof with sliding sunshade, heated 8-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats with 2-way lumbar support, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. A tri-zone climate control system with air filtration and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a HomeLink universal transceiver are standard, as well.

The power-folding heated side-view mirrors have blind-spot warning signals, integrated turn indicators, reverse tilt-down, and automatic dimming on the driver’s side. Convenient removable, multi-level shelves in the cargo area are also standard.

Performance

The lowest trim level of the 2024 Sequoia’s lineup has a standard 3.445-liter V6 twin-turbo engine that delivers 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. It is a parallel hybrid system with an electric motor providing 48 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It also has a 10-speed automatic transmission featuring electronically controlled intelligence (ECT-i), sequential shift mode, and uphill/downhill shift logic.

Part-time 4-wheel drive is also standard on the Sequoia, and it offers three drive modes from which you can choose: Eco, Normal, and Sport. An Integrated Trailer Brake Controller with Multi-Information Display and Trailer-Sway Control are standard in the line’s lowest trim. The Sequoia can tow up to 9,120 pounds. Trial subscriptions for the Remote Connect, Service Connect, and Driver Connect service packages are also included.

Technology

The 2024 Sequoia’s SR5 base model has a standard audio system with eight speakers, AM/FM stereo, and satellite radio. A free 3-month trial subscription for SiriusXM is included. An 8-inch touchscreen display anchors the infotainment system, which has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A WiFi Connect trial subscription with a mobile WiFi hotspot is included.
