Hand-tossed dough gives the pizza served up at Woody’s Pizza a home-cooked flavor that beats anything you can dig out of the freezer in your kitchen. We went for a three-topping pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms on top and were absolutely delighted with the flavor that ended up on our plate. Try some of their famous cinnamon sticks for dessert once you’ve had your fill of slices.

Sweet Jordan’s
You’ll find this place at 849 Volunteer Drive, and they open at 10AM. They close at 7PM on weeknights and at 9PM on Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sundays. This is an amazing place for baked goods of all kinds, soup, homemade ice cream, and, of course, sandwiches.
If you’re in there early, you can get great breakfast sandwiches that come with egg and cheese on a croissant, with your choice of ham or bacon. These are made to order and always hot and delicious. You can get the same on a waffle if you prefer. For lunch and dinner, get their tuna croissant sandwich, a delicious grilled cheese that comes with bacon, or their filling chicken salad sandwich.
Trolinger’s
Trolinger’s has been in operation since 1917, and you’ll find them at 2305 E Wood St. They are a barbeque place, but they do absolutely amazing deli sandwiches. This is also a great place to chill, with nice staff and a good atmosphere. There’s a good beer selection, too. If you enjoy one, though, be sure to drink responsibly and never drink and drive.
They, too, have some really amazing breakfast sandwiches, which is good, as they open at 7AM on weekdays and 9AM on weekends. The breakfast sandwiches come with home-smoked meats, including hams, sausages, and bacons. Trolinger’s close at 6PM, and if you’re going for lunch or dinner, we highly recommend you try their Blazing Saddle, which is cajun roast beef and turkey with habanero cheese and hot sauce on wheat. Their Humdinger is also great, with roast beef, turkey, and really sharp cheddar.
Uncle Billy’s Downtown Eatery
Uncle Billy’s looks like a hole in the wall, but it eats like the finest homecooked food you’ve ever had. You’ll find them at 200 S Market St, open just for lunch from 10:30 until 2:30 on weekdays. It’s super clean, has great food at a good price, and the staff will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and take care of your needs.
We suggest the BLT, which is crisp and delicious, the chicken salad sandwiches, which is so big one person may struggle to eat it all, and the toasted turkey. We also love the grilled cheese, and the Reuben is spot on. They’ll cater events if you need them to, and they have a great potato bar, so get a baked potato to go with your sammy, if you want our advice.

Jack’s Java is a small coffeehouse with great prices. Its signature specialty coffee drinks are Bongo Blend, Caramel Cafe, and Mocha Joe. You’ll also find espresso-based drinks with whipped cream, vanilla, honey, caramel, and other ingredients. There are always plenty of freshly-baked treats.
The chocolate cookie sandwiches are amazing! Jack’s Java also sells coffee beans in eight different flavors. The staff can also grind the beans for you. The owner is very friendly and she really cares about fast, efficient customer service. The café is located inside Jack Jones Flowers & Gifts.
Sweet Jordan’s
Sweet Jordan’s has a touching story. The owner, Jordan, is an amazing baker with Down Syndrome. Most of his “special team members” are people with disabilities as well. The menu offers Jordan’s signature coffee-based drinks like Fireside, with toasted marshmallows, and Salty Snowman, with salted caramel.
You’ll also find a wide choice of fruit smoothies. The bakery offers fresh cinnamon rolls, bagels, muffins, and savory puff pastries. Homemade ice cream is available as well. The seating area is quiet and cozy, and there is a large playground for kids. Sweet Jordan’s offers delivery.
Higher Ground Coffee Company
Located in the nearby town of Union City, Higher Ground Coffee Company has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. All coffee-based drinks are hand-crafted with freshly-brewed coffee. You can choose soy or almond milk if you want to avoid dairy products. For lunch, there is a variety of sandwiches with chicken salad, smoked ham, roast beef, or turkey.
You can also build your own sandwich, choosing from many bread types and filling options. Every workday, the coffeehouse offers a different lunch soup. Freshly-baked pastries are always available. The seating area has free Wi-Fi. In the winter, you can even sit by the fireplace!
